Labour Party finds its great mayoral hope for Manchester

The city of Engels and Marx, and the home of Emmeline Pankhurst, Manchester is a known for its politics as much as its football.

When the Labour Party were looking to assign the task of winning the role of Mayor in 2017 – a job which, under devolution arrangements, would bring with it an increased power in the North West for the first time – there was one figure who saw the role as having his name all over it.

But with George Osborne stepping down and Theresa May ditching Northern Powerhouse plans, what is the likelihood of a Burham victory – and will he be able to power the city to success?
