End violence against women… Or where is our sea change?

When I first became aware of Counting Dead Women, I felt my blood run cold in my veins.

But really, why should it be a surprise. Every day the newspapers are filled with stories of girls aliceand women harmed, assaulted, attacked, raped and killed by men.

The Counting Dead Women project started in 2012 when Karen Ingala Smith started counting and commemorating women killed though male violence.

Looking at the stories and comments on her blog, you get more on an idea behind the headline.

The women whose untimely deaths she charts become daughters, mothers, cousins, friends. Instead of names and ages, they become us.

Karen’s still going with the project, and following her Twitter feed is one of the most miserable and yet important things any of us could do.
